Wild Hare Weekly, Summer #8/18: What a Fruitful Week

This week’s newsletter is going to be brief, because we just wrapped up hosting a Farm Walk at Wild Hare today. Mark and I had the pleasure of sharing an in-depth look at our farm and practices with a group of farmers, certifiers, researchers and professionals from our local food system. Luckily, today’s event was recorded in multiple forms of media, and with folks in the form of a virtual tour in the future, which is beyond amazing. Mark and I are truly grateful for days like these, and after four hours of sharing ideas, gadgets, stories, and techniques, I’m having trouble finding the words, let alone string them together into sentences. So, how about some bullet points?

  • Last week’s heat brought on a bumper crop of Zucchini and a fair amount of Cucumbers too!

  • We’re harvesting Napa Cabbages for the CSA this week, along with another round of fresh Blueberries.

  • The flowers are slooooow to bloom this year, and Mark thinks we might need to wait to open up picking to the CSA. We’ll take it day by day!

  • There’s a ridiculously wide variety of local fruit available farm stand this week—Sweetheart Cherries, Tart Montmorency Cherries, Apricots, Early Red Haven Peaches, Nectarines, Beauty Plums, and Cantaloupes (yes…the Hermiston ones! YUM!).

  • It is late July. We’re exhausted, but we’re super thankful that we get to be your farmers.

    See you at the farm,
    Katie

PS: Maybe Tomatoes?
